Gauvreau en Haiti

Gauvreau en Haiti

March and April 2013

« God knows that we should never be ashamed of our tears; they are like rain on the blinding dust of the earth that covers our stiff hearts.” Charles Dickens

Something I can say this morning is that we had sun this morning after 10 days without. We have had our heads in the clouds each day; because we are in the mountain the clouds surround us often. So, it is very humid and our bones suffer. Sometimes we go to Port-au-Prince to warm up.

At this time, we do not have electricity from the Haitian company (EDH). The company is redoing all the transportation system for electricity. It changes the posts and the wiring so we can get a better and regular voltage. It will be harder for people to tap electricity without paying. So, we have problems with our inverter and the batteries because the voltage goes up and down; it is hard for the electric appliances also. Even the industrial generator is giving up. But, by God’s grace, we know someone who can repair the inverter and the generator. He does a very good job. The only thing is that he is very expansive. We just had our inverter repaired for $350, and we bought 4 batteries for $480 (it is $120 less than the asking price)

Monday, March 25

Today, it seems that the time goes faster than me. We still have problems with the inverter, and we have to send it for repairs a second time because the power demands, on it, was greater than what it could handle. Even after the second repair, the inverter is still going crazy and we are afraid that our electric appliances will all die.

Today, the weather is wonderful to dry the laundry, but the post for the clothing line is falling. I must go up to bring all my laundry at our neighbour’s gas dryer. For that, I wait until the cleaning lady is gone and the clothes in the dryer are dry. It is only around 3 o’clock that I can start to dry my laundry. I can say that we have very nice neighbours.

Finally, we have the sun, but no rain. Before, we had the clouds, but no rain. We received 2” (5 cm) of rain in four months. We are in the rainy season, but the rain is not there. The soil is very dry and we cannot fill the water cisterns. We must buy the water and the cost for the dry season, for a truck of water, is between $80 and $100. The water truck contains around 3500 gallons (14 000 litres).

Georges did repair the post for the clothes line. It was rotten at the end. Georges has cut the end of the post and has planted it in the groundl again. I can now use my clothing line. J

Sunday, April 21

Yesterday, while we were driving, a little boy came out of an adjacent street and bump into the car. Fortunately, Georges was not going fast at all and he put the brakes just in time. As Georges was asking the little boy if he was IK, a man pull out his belt and started to beat the boy. I shout NO and the little boy ran and the man ran after him but he stopped and told him not nice things. My heart was crying and I was praying for the boy’s health and that he will not receive more beating with belt.

This morning, Georges preached at the orphanage for the staff and volunteers. He gave his testimony and all the people were listening attentively, even the children were quiet. The pastor that we had is gone to the States for six months with his family. During his time out, Georges and Tim will be preaching.

Regarding the three girls who go to University, and that we are helping in there endeavor, two of them must redo exams. One has five exams on eight to redo and the second one has four. Their 3rd year in administration is very challenging and they must learn to take all the time they have to study. The third girl will be graduating in June as preschool teacher.

This week, we will have a team of 10 people from Canada who will help to finish the Toddlers houses. Georges is always busy doing furniture for the orphanage, the guest house and he shows the volunteers what to do. For my part, Jocelyne, I am sorting out the donations that we receive and enter them in the inventory program.

Sunday, April 28

Presently, we have a lot of parents who are coming to take home their adoptive child. Thank you Lord that these children will have a family. Pray that the children and the parents will adapt well together.

This is the end word:

Be Strong and Take Heart

“Continue to turn to Him...

His heart is toward you.

Continue to look to Him...

His eyes are upon you.

Continue to lean upon Him...

His arms are around you

Continue to trust in Him...

His hope is within you.”

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.”

Psalm 31:24

Cordially,

Jocelyne and Georges
